God's Voice

Last night I started writing and the Holy Spirit took me in a direction I had no idea I would go when I started to write a post for today. I am not posting that writing because the Holy Spirit led me to scriptures that left me asking myself how can I miss the voice of God? The Holy Spirit than laid upon my heart to ask you wonderful ladies to study these verses with me and give insight to your thoughts.

How can we miss the voice of God?

It is loud
The Lord's voice is heard over the sea. The glorious God thunders; the Lord thunders over the ocean.

Listen! Listen to the thunder of God's voice and to the rumbling that comes from his mouth. Job 37:2

Sometimes people are not sure if it is God's voice
The crowd standing there, who heard the voice, said it was thunder. But others said, "An angel has spoken to him. John 12:29

His sheep knows His voice
The one who guards the door opens it for him. And the sheep listen to the voice of the shepherd. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he brings all his sheep out, he goes ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger. They will run away from him because they don't know his voice." John 10:3 -5-

I have other sheep that are not in this flock, and I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock and one shepherd. John 10:16

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27–

Sometimes it is a whisper
The Lord said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 1Kings 19:11-12

Does God no longer speak to us in a loud voice? Does His voice come only in a whisper and that is why we miss it? As children of God shouldn’t we always hear and know the voice of the Shepherd?

Please share your thoughts with me.

This is great!! I am just starting Prescilla Shirer's study, "He Speaks to Me" and I know that I can hear God's voice. I just love to hear it all the time. John 12:29 spoke to me the most...it's the crowd that often drowns it out. Even Jesus had the wisdom to climb a mountain and get alone oftentimes to hear God's voice. One of my favorite songs is "The Garden". I love the verse, "He speaks and the sound of His voice is sooo sweet, the birds hush their singing." OOOOHHHH what a beautiful Savior.

Amen to that! (above comment)
I hear Him at many times during the day, and sometimes He will wake me up with a Word. One time I remember Him saying to me, as I was waking up, "Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world." I'll never forget that. He has spoken to me in dreams about Himself too. Lovely dreams. And He speaks to me through His Word-it's such a strong thing when it happens, it's hard to describe.
Love, Debra
